"This is an interesting photo of Martha Boardman and her daughter taken around the year of 1874. This photo proves that many of the Shinnecock women were very comely and beautiful."

Shinnecock Children Of Another Generation

The caption reads:

"This is an interesting photo of four Shinnecock children taken around the early 1900's. The boy kneeling is Deforest Cuffee and boy behind him is his brother Cortland. They were the sons of Eugene Cuffee and Ida Beaman Cuffee of the Shinnecock tribe.

The younger boy is still living and is one of the officials of the Shinnecock church."

"Mrs. Lillian Lee, the grandmother, is shown in this photo with her grandaughter, Mrs. Vivian Carl and her great grandsons, Gary and Douglass Carl. This photo was taken in front of the Williams homestead on the Shinnecock Reservation.

The little boys are now grown men and both served their country in the armed forces. Mrs. Lee is deceased but the mother and sons still live on the reservation. (April 25, 1969)"

Three Shinnecocks Of Yesteryear

"An excellent photo of three Shinnecocks taken shortly before the year of 1914. Wickham Cuffee is seated on the left and the woman on the right is Fanny Bunn who was the mother of Ada Bunn who appears in Photo 40.

Wickham's wife Ellen is standing in the center. She has an old walking stick in her hand probably fashioned by her husband."
