Dr. W.E. Gordon, Historian
Dear Sir --

In reply to your communication
in regard to my services in the World War,
I submit the following:

I enlisted in the U.S.N.R.F. [U.S. Naval Reserve Force] (Sec. 2)
April 8, 1918, and was called to Pelham
Bay June 7. 1918. After about 8 weeks
in training camp, I attended the Petty
Officers' School for 3 weeks. From
this time until my release from active
service in December, 1918, I was Petty
Officer, with station ratings as coxswain,
B.M.2 and B.M. 1, respectively. My duties
were the training and drilling of newly
enlisted men. During this time I was
suffered to be "standing by" for my
commission as ensign, but after the
signing of the Armistice, received my
release from active service.

Very Sincerely
Arthur M. Taber
