Description: The reverse reads:
"This dignified looking gentleman was once the King of the Montauk tribe of Long Island. He was well liked by his people and the neighboring whites. The name was also spelled as Faro although present day members of the tribe use the longer spelling.
Like his forefathers before him, this man knew every inch of the domain of his people and used to walk off Montauk to East Hampton Amagansett and Sag Harbor to shop and to visit relatives.
Upon the death of King Sylvester in 1867, the title of King of the Montauks fell to David Pharoah who is shown in Photo No. 2."
