Description: The reverse reads:
"Although his father was white, Robert Butler shows the strong Indian facial structure that predominates among the Montauks of East Hampton, and their cousins the Montauks of Wisconsin.
I took this photo of young Butler in 1942, while visiting among the Montauks of Freetown, East Hampton. He has the same type of strong and interesting face that his mother Ethel possessed. He was nine when this photo was taken. Today (December 7, 1968) he is an outstanding Indian dancer and the only Montauk still keeping up with tribal traditions.
He wears long hair today like his late uncles Charles and William.
See Photo 21 for a present day look at this young Montauk."
