Description: The reverse reads:
"The name of Cuffee is interesting, and as a family name it appears among the Montauk, Shinnecock, Setauket, Nissequogue, and Wampanoag tribes. It is an interesting subject for research and currently I am engaged in trying to solve its origin.
Nell Cuffee Brown was one of seven children of Louisa Cotton Cuffee and Jason Cuffee. The others were Amelia Halsey, Ann Todd Cuffee, Nathan J. Cuffee, James Lewis Cuffee, Melancton Cuffee, and Christopher.
In this series her brother Christopher appears in Photos 3, 13 and 15, another brother Nathan appears in Photo 10, her sisters Amelia and Ann appear in Photos 2, 14 and 15. Her mother Louisa appears in Photos 5 and 22.
Nell Cuffee Brown appears in Photo 7 in her old age in front of the old homestead in Sag Harbor. Nell Cuffee Brown bore an amazing resemblance to William Lincoln Wilcox, Chief Pine Tree of the Narragansetts. I recall the remark also of Eliza Beaman, a Montauk of the Freetown Band, who commented upon the fact that Chief Pine Tree looked like the Cuffees of past generations. Many look alikes have been encountered among the Algonkian tribes."
