Description: The reverse reads:
"Louisa Cotton Cuffee was a member of the Narragansett tribe of Rhode Island. Her people lived chiefly in the Southern part of Rhode Island in the region known colloquially as "South County".
She married Jason Cuffee of the Montauks and had the following children, Amelia, Nell, Louisa, Nathan, Melancton and Christopher. Nathan was the only member of the family who became an author. With Lydia Jocelyn he wrote the informative and popular novel, "Lords Of The Soil" a story of early Montauk and English life on Long Island.
This picture of her in her tribal regalia shows her as a girl of six and it is a most interesting contrast to the photos of her as she appears in later life. See Photos 5 and 22."
