Description: The reverse reads:
"Harriet Joseph, the wife of Vincent Joseph of the Montauk Tribe of Shelter Island was the neice [sic] of Capt. Samuel Butler a New England Indian of either the Wampanoag or the Mohegan Tribes.
Samuel Butler was an orphan and it was always a matter of concern to his children just which tribe his parents came from. Through research and questioning of Indians in the various communities of southern New England we hope to shed some light on the tribal background of Capt. Butler and his neice [sic] Harriet.
