Description: The caption reads:
"Those who visit the Shinnecock reservation today will find that the young man on the left, with the white sweater, is now one of the three tribal trustees who are elected by the tribe, in the Southampton Town Hall with Town Officials officiating in a ceremony held the first Tuesday in April; Trustees are elected for a one year term.
This is Harry Williams (Chief War Hawk), who is also in charge of the concessions at the annual Pow Wow held by the Shinnecocks every Labor Day Weekend.
I know Harry Williams well and sparked his interest in Indian traditions when I first visited the reservation. He was the first Shinnecock to show me around the reservation. He comes from a strong Indian line from both sides of his family and is a full blood type. He is one of 52 Indians who served in World War II. He is married to the former Mary Davis who is also a Shinnecock. He is a hard worker and is constantly trying to better his reservation. Like most hard workers he is not fully appreciated for his efforts."
