Conklin’s Stationery Store (29 South Ocean Avenue, today’s Alterations by Lucy) opened in 1885 across the street from the Olympia Confectionary Store location and sits behind the carriage facing forward in the postcard. The Hammond-Mills Building appears on the left and, on the right, men stand in front of Ginnochio’s Store. Howard Conklin’s postcards provide a valuable and irreplaceable look at Patchogue’s buildings, people and history. Conklin sold photography products as the “laying trolley tracks” postcard shows a Kodak sign in front of his store.
