John Roe Smith Block
32 West Main Street
John Roe Smith Block (32 West Main Street) was built in the 1870s in Second Empire Victorian architecture. The French mansard roof is short and sloped with decorative floral shingles. Brackets run above and below the mansard roof. Earlier images show a large tower facing the Four Corners. In 1883, Patchogue’s library got its start here in Floyd Overton’s shoe store. The Colony Shop, a children’s clothing store, was here for many years and is now on East Main Street.
